Initial Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) Training Class - $150

8 hours of classroom instruction in Mead, CO with live-fire conducted at the Northern Colorado Rod and Gun Club in Laporte, CO on a separate day.

 


Our Pistol Basics course, led by NRA-certified instructors, is a hands-on introduction to handgun ownership, safe handling, and practical self-defense skills. This eight-hour program is designed for anyone seeking to become proficient with a handgun and prepare for a Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) in Colorado.


Course Highlights Include:

  • Firearm safety and proper handling techniques
  • Ammunition knowledge and fundamentals of pistol shooting
  • Shooting positions, qualification exercises, and scoring targets
  • Selecting, maintaining, and caring for your pistol
  • Opportunities for ongoing skill development


All training complies with Colorado Revised Statutes governing self-defense and CHP requirements, covering the following key elements:

  • Knowledge and safe handling of firearms and ammunition
  • Safe storage of firearms and child safety
  • Safe shooting fundamentals
  • Federal and state firearms laws, including:
  • Extreme Risk Protection Orders (C.R.S. Article 14.5, Title 13)
  • Reporting requirements for lost or stolen firearms (C.R.S. § 18-12-113)
  • Secure firearm storage rules (C.R.S. § 18-12-114)
  • Any other relevant state laws enacted within five years of the class
  • Colorado laws on the use of deadly force for self-defense
  • Best practices for safely interacting with law enforcement during emergency responses
  • Techniques to prevent criminal attacks and manage violent confrontations, including conflict resolution and judgmental use of lethal force

 


Concealed Carry Draw Training:

  • Movement and “Getting Off the X”
  • Close-quarters considerations
  • Post-engagement awareness and assessment
  • Reloading techniques
  • One-handed shooting
  • Legal considerations for permit holders

 


This class equips students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to safely own, carry, and use a handgun in accordance with Colorado law.

 

What to Bring

 


For the Classroom:

  • Valid government-issued photo ID with your full legal name (e.g., CHP, driver’s license)
  • Notepad and pen for taking notes
  • Lunch (a 30-minute break will be provided)


For the Range (Live-Fire Exercise):

  • Unloaded handgun in a secure case (keep ammunition in a separate case)
  • 50–100 rounds of new, factory ammunition (no reloaded, steel-case, or steel-core ammo)
  • Eye and ear protection

Refresher Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) Training Class - $85

3 hours of classroom instruction in Mead, CO with live-fire conducted at the Northern Colorado Rod and Gun Club in Laporte, CO on the same day or a separate day.


Colorado House Bill 24-1174 requires Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) holders renewing on or after July 1, 2025 to complete an approved refresher training course. Our CHP Refresher Course is designed to meet these requirements.

 


The course is approximately three hours in length and includes:

  • Classroom instruction (up to two hours)
  • A required written examination
  • A live-fire proficiency exercise

 


You may submit your renewal application to your county Sheriff no more than 120 days before your current permit expires. Your refresher training certificate must be issued within six months of your renewal application.

 


To receive your CHP Refresher Training Certificate, you must:

  • Attend the full three-hour course
  • Pass the written examination
  • Successfully complete the live-fire qualification

 


This certificate must be submitted with your renewal application, along with any additional documentation required by your county Sheriff.

Range Safety Officer (RSO) Training Class - $125

8 hours of classroom instruction in Mead, CO. No live-fire component.


The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) Course is the industry-standard training program designed to develop competent, confident firearms range safety professionals. Whether you’re a new volunteer, a seasoned shooter, a range staff member, or a club leader, this course gives you the knowledge and practical skills you need to ensure safe and effective range operations.


What You Will Learn:


The NRA RSO course combines classroom instruction with real-world scenario training. Participants will learn how to:

  • Interpret and apply range safety rules and firearm safety fundamentals
  • Identify potential hazards and prevent unsafe conditions
  • Effectively supervise shooters and manage range activities
  • Conduct range orientations and enforce range commands
  • Respond to emergencies and administer basic first aid
  • Use safety equipment and understand range facility requirements


Students are introduced to a variety of shooting disciplines and learn how to adapt safety procedures to different types of firearms and range environments.
